Police department incurs heavy expenditure on investigation

​Kadapa:The expenditure of the Andhra Pradesh Police department, after the investigation on red sanders smuggling cases has increased sharply. So far, over 100 smugglers including 20 most-wanted criminals were apprehended.

While the State government partly reimburses the expenditure, the Police department gasps to meet the rest of the expenses. Cost of food, transportation, conducting recce and other incidental expenses are very high.

To nab the kingpin, Kollam Gangi Reddy, who was nabbed in Mauritius with the assistance of the Interpol, the department had to bear an expenditure of Rs 1.50 crore. It cost them Rs 1 lakh to nab Mastan Wali, an international smuggler, who is now in Anantapur jail.

A 15-member police team conducted recce for 12 days in Chennai to apprehend Partiban, the right hand of international smuggler Sahul Bhai.

The department had to bear a load of Rs 2 lakh to apprehend another smuggler Kanda Swamy in Chennai. Busting of another kingpin, Fayaz Sharif from Katikanahalli in Karnataka cost them Rs 3 lakh. The lion’s share of expenditure after nabbing criminals is gradually vacating the police coffer.

The Police department has to spend such hefty sum after logistics. In apprehending Kollam Gangi Reddy, the State government cooperated with the investigating authorities.

But in other cases, police had to spend money of their own. Without money, no progress can be possible in action plan, which has turned out as a burden on the Police department. The investigating officials are caught between the top brass police officials and the State government in getting their funds replenished.
