Visakhapatnam: Imparting value-based education coupled with moral teachings to mould the children as responsible citizens is more important than securing cent per cent results in high schools, observed Collector N Yuvaraj.

Addressing the district-level headmasters’ conference of high schools and upper primary schools here on Friday, the Collector asked the headmasters to teach the students with commitment by maintaining punctuality which is very important. “Every headmaster and faculty member of the school should feel that the organisation and the children are their own, he emphasised.

He also asked headmasters to involve children in keeping classrooms clean and the surroundings green. It is also the responsibility of the headmasters to see that the school in which they are working should have infrastructure like compound walls with gates, continuous water supply to toilets and drinking water facility, he added.

District Education Officer M V Krishna Reddy stated that the district had registered an increase of four per cent in the SSC results this year compared to the last two years. He assured the Collector that they shoulder the responsibility of planting saplings in schools and also in public places on birthdays and national festivals.

All the headmasters were instructed to maintain the school surroundings clean and green involving village elders and sarpanches.
