Student washed away in Godavari canal
He went to the canal on Friday morning too and was washed away as the water force was very high. Efforts of local people to rescue him went in vain. On learning the incident, the Endowments Minister Pydikondala Manikayla Rao reached the spot and alerted officials. Two rescue teams from Kovvuru, four swimmers and two boats started the search operation immediately.
Eluru: A 21-year-old engineering student was washed away in engineering studentat the Warf of Saibaba temple in Tadepalligudem town on Friday. According to police, Maka Phani Kumar (21) of Padala village in Tadepalligudem mandal was a final year B. Tech student of the Vasavi Engineering College. Every morning, he used to swim in the Godavari canal.

Fire tenders from Tanuku and Tadepalligudem also reached the spot. Maka Srinivas, an ex-serviceman and the father of Phani Kumar along with family members also reached Tadepalligudem. No information was received till Friday evening. Rescue operation would be continued, the officials said.
