Tirupati: Thanks to magnanimity of Chiranjeevi Reddy’s family, four persons got a new lease of life. Chiranjeevi (45), a security guard at
a Junior College, had died after he had suffered a cardiac arrest on July 27.

Papamma’s son Chiranjeevi, who was undergoing treatment after he suffered a massive cardiac arrest, in SVIMS here, was declared brain
dead on July 30. He was unmarried.

Chiranjeevi, a security guard (outsourcing) in TTD-run Sri Padmavathi Women’s (SPW) Junior College here, suffered cardiac arrest on
July 27 and was admitted to SVIMS emergency ward and was later shifted to ICU after his condition deteriorated.

He was declared brain dead by the SVIMS doctors, following which the SVIMS authorities approached the family for organ donation of
their relative under the government’s Jeevandan Scheme for transplantation of the organs to the patients requiring organ transplantation
on July 30.

Despite being uneducated, Parvathamma readily agreed for the donation of her brain dead brother’s organs to others and also convinced
her mother Papamma. Following family members’ approval for organ transplantation, the SVIMS authorities made necessary
arrangements.

Chiranjeevi, who was residing at Seshadripuram village near Chittoor, migrated to Tirupati in search of a job along with his mother. He
was living in a house made of asbestos roof in Gandhipuram slum near the college. His sister also stayed with him after her husband had
died, and the trio was leading a life with the meagre income of Chiranjeevi .

According to SVIMS director and vice-chancellor T S Ravi Kumar, they sent the organs after the family had given its consent for the same.

He informed that the heart was sent to Star Hospital, Hyderabad, liver to Apollo Hospitals, Vizag by air, while one of the kidneys was sent
by road to Narayana Hospital, Nellore and other is kept in SVIMS for transplantation to a patient suffering from a renal failure. Tirupati
traffic police made elaborate arrangements for transporting the organs to airport before airlifting them to Hyderabad and Vizag, as well as
to Nellore by road.
