Atmakur (Kurnool): The Sangameswaram temple is facing flood threat at a time when the Pushkaralu to River Krishna are just seven days away.

This is attributed to discharge of over one lakh cusecs from Almatti in Karnataka to Narayanapur and Jurala projects. The Central Water Commission sounded an alert to the Andhra Pradesh irrigation authorities about impending floods to the river.

Currently, water level in Srisailam reservoir stands at 827 feet. If the dam were to receive 13 feet water in four days the Sangameswar temple will be completely marooned. The flood situation is worrying officials. Further, contractor is apprehensive of construction of bathing ghats.

Officials estimate over 6 lakh tourist footfalls for the event. There is scope for accidents taking place because of inundation of bathing ghats and increased inflow of tourists. In case of bathing ghats’ inundation, only two ghats will be accessible to people to take a holy dip in the river.
