New Delhi: With Dr K V P Ramachandra Rao's Private Members’ Bill seeking implementation of all assurances made to the State during bifurcation and provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act, slated to come up for voting on Friday, the rival Congress and YSRCP and the TDP-BJP combine are once again back to their strategy desk.

The Congress issued a three-line whip to its members as usual, asking its members to be present in the House during the voting. Dr K V P Ramachandra Rao kept up the heat on the ruling party by organising a round table meeting, here on Thursday evening with Jairam Ramesh in toe to justify the Congress demand for Special Status and action on assurances.

YSRCP MPs continued their protests in the House for a fourth day. Their concern was that they could not be seen as lagging behind in upping the ante as the Congress upstaged them in introducing the Bill and generating the political heat over the same.

The TDP on its part, apart from reiterating their commitment to the cause and also emphasising the point that they had only temporarily halted their protests as a ‘wait and watch policy’, succeeded in getting ear of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Their plea fructified for an appointment, as the PMO has informed them that the PM would be meeting them on Friday afternoon. The presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the capital to invite dignitaries for Krishna Pushkaralu has strengthened their resolve to continue their fight.

They are also confident that while on one hand the possibility of the Bill being taken up by the RS is nil, on the other, the Chief Minister making a forceful pitch for the Special Status with the Prime Minister, when he meets him on Friday would be a big plus for the party back home.

It would be interesting to see whether he would be meeting the NITI Aayog members to extend the courtesy of the invite, which could be projected as an attempt to safeguard the interests of the State.
