Rajamahendravaram: The rush of pilgrims for Antya Pushkaralu came down drastically, even on Thursday, as a result of incessant rains. Throughout the day, there were hardly 10,000 people at all ghats in the city and rural areas, taken together.

According to statistics available with municipal corporation officials, Kotilingala and Sasraswati ghats did not touch even 2,000 and Pushkara ghat and Goutama ghats recorded 3,500 and 1,800, respectively, till the afternoon. All the rural ghats put together did not cross 2,500 as rain occurred in many parts of the district.

This programme was taken up by C.P. Brown mandiram of Rajamahendravaram on the fourth day of Godavari Antya Pushkaralu and its president Sannidhanam Sastry along with former MLA Rowthu Surya Prakasa Rao offered ‘pinda pradanam’ to legends. This programme was attended by MLC Somu Veerraju also.

Tarpanalu’ were also offered to Havelock who constructed Havelock Bridge across River Godavari, social reformer Kandukuri Veeresalingam Pantulu, popular writer Sripada Krishnamurthy Sastry, folk writer Nedunuri Gangadharam, Madhunapantula Satyanarayana and to Madhura Krishna Murthy Sastry.
