Anantapur: The city is being decked up for hosting the 70th Independence Day function at the Police Training College (PTC) Stadium on August 15. It is getting a big facelift as beautification works are in full swing. The sweeping of the roads and lanes in the city has been undertaken.

Thanks to the Chief Minister's decision to conduct the 70th Independence Day celebrations in Anantapur city, the PTC emerged as the biggest beneficiary as the entire campus is spruced up and permanent development of the stadium had been undertaken.

Something like Rs 1 crore is being spent on the canopy alone. As many as 6 gates had been arranged for hassle-free movement of VVIPs and the general public.

Ten contingents of police from Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, children of residential social welfare schools, NCC and NSS would form part of the grand parade.City illumination including government offices and public places are also being beautified and illuminated. Roads are being expanded and repaired.

District Collector Kona Sasidhar, Joint Collector Lakshmikantham, municipal commissioner Obuleshu, Mayor Swaroopa and local MLA V Prabhakar Chowdary are taking keen interest in the arrangements apart from local Ministers Palle Raghunatha Reddy and Paritala Sunitha.All the arrangements would be completed by August 13. Hundreds of visitors from around the State were expected to participate in the grand freedom fete.
