Tirumala: Chief Archaka of the Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Ramana Deekshitulu has accused the TTD officials of violating norms and traditions ('Apacharam') during the three-day Pavitra Utsavams commencing on August 14, as they did last year.

He alleged that the officials are persisting with their adamant attitude in the conduct of various holy rituals despite experiencing the ill-effects of such attitude. Deekshitulu has declared that he should not be held responsible if there are any consequences due to the TTD officials’ faulty actions. He stressed the need for everyone connected with the TTD following the ‘Agama Sastram’ in the observance of the holy rituals.

According to him, Archakas belonging to only four families are to perform the various poojas/sevas to Lord Venkateswara. This is being followed for generations. In violation of this practice, the TTD officials last year allowed Sundara Varada Bhattacharyulu, an adviser to TTD, who is supposed to remain isolated following the death of a cousin (‘Mruta Souchyam’) to perform the rituals, either because of pressure or allurement.

During the subsequent Brahmotsavam's Dhwajarohana programme Bhattacharyulu's younger brother conducted the programme in which the same Sundara Varada Bhattacharyulu participated in spite of ‘Mruta Souchyam’, to which Deekshitulu took serious exception.

During the programme there was a row on the issue between the temple Archakas and the TTD officials. However, the officials managed to suppress it. Within ten days of the programme the wife of Bhattacharyulu's brother died, pointed out Deekshitulu. He claimed that the TTD officials were once again violating the norms by utilising the service of an inexperienced Seetaramacharyulu, a teacher in the Veda Patashala, in the Pavitra Utsavams.

The Chief Archaka pointed out that this was the result of the adamant attitude by the TTD officials, contending that Seetaramacharyulu has no ability to hold the event. Deekshitulu apprehends that there could be ill-effects of this, while expressing anguish that he is not able to stand violation of norms by the TTD officials.
