,Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu proposed to develop National Institute for Transport and Road Safety in the city during his in camera meeting with Union Minister for Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari before inaugural session of the national workshop on ‘Road Safety’ here on Friday.

Union Ministers M Venkaiah Naidu, Sujana Choudhary and State Ministers Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Ch Ayyanna Patrudu were also present. The Chief Minister told Gatkari that his government had identified a land in the city for development of the institute.

Gadkari assured him that he would look into his proposals after reaching New Delhi. Earlier, transport commissioner S Balasubrahmanayam briefed about the road safety in Andhra Pradesh and said six per cent of the accidents were taking place in the State.

The chief minister told the Union Minister that the State has 15,000 km of road which needed Rs 4,000 crore in the next five years to modernise the roads. By 2020, Andhra Pradesh will have a trauma care centre for every 100 kilomtres and reduce accidental deaths by half by 2025.
