Vijayawada: After unprecedented pilgrim rush witnessed at pushkar ghats on Sunday, the number of pilgrims visiting ghats came down considerably on Monday.

Most of the pilgrims arrived in city for Pushkaralu on Saturday and Sunday had left by trains, buses and private vehicles by Monday.

One of the important reasons for decline in the rush at the ghats is the weekend holidays which ended on Sunday, and the Pushkaralu has reached the final phase.

Since the last day falls on Tuesday, most pilgrims do not like to take holy dip on Tuesday. So, most of them came to Vijayawada to take bath on Saturday and Sunday, and left the city by Monday. The rush of pilgrims at the important ghats: Padmavati, Krishnaveni, Punnami and Durga ghats dropped drastically on Monday.

Meanwhile, the State government has decided to conclude the Pushkaralu at Pavitra Sangamam in a grand manner. So, the pilgrims are showing interest to take holy bath at Sangamam. Number of pilgrims at the queue lines leading to Durga temple also decreased on Monday.

Though the pilgrim rush came down in city, police continued with their traffic restrictions, and did not allow vehicles into ‘no-vehicle’ zone. The police holding ropes prevented vehicles going towards Canal Road by crossing the flyover bridge.
