Public Accounts Committee to review functioning of government hospitals

Chittoor: Expressing serious concern over ill-functioning of government and corporate hospitals, Chairman of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of AP Legislature B Rajendranath said that his panel would review the functioning of the government hospitals.

Speaking to the media at Roads and Buildings Guest House here on Wednesday, Rajendranath said that a report would be submitted to the government after ascertaining facts about the government hospitals. He stated that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has a strategy for ensuring effective functioning of government hospitals.

Rajendranath said that the government has proposed to construct the super specialty hospitals in the State and the PAC panel would seek public opinion in this regard. “The quality of medical services in government hospitals has been coming down due to various reasons despite allocating huge funds in the budget,” he opined. He stressed on the need for strengthening government and private hospitals in the State.

He stated that the PAC would also examine the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report of 2013-14 to know about utilisation of funds for construction of the government hospitals and the maintenance of the medical institutions. He asked private hospitals to be accountable while providing medical services to the people.

The PAC panel members, MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy and others were present. It is learnt that the proposed PAC meeting with the district officials slated on Wednesday was cancelled as they were assigned duties for Krishna Pushkaralu.
