Visakhapatnam: The State government is committed to develop King George Hospital with an integrated master plan as the patient rush has been increasing not only from north coastal Andhra, but also from parts of Odisha State, said HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao.

After laying the foundation stone for the proposed underground drainage project inside the KGH on Wednesday, the Minister said the government has allocated the highest budget of Rs 6,500 crore for health sector this year. Rs 5 crore is the project cost of the underground drainage project and out of it, Rs 4 crore will be spent from the Special Development Fund and the remaining Rs 1 crore from the GVMC funds.

He said that many posts have been filled recently in KGH and VGH and the remaining posts will also be filled soon.
“We will chalk out an integrated development plan after discussing with the Health Minister, Chief Secretary of Medical and Health and the Collector as most of the patients were opting KGH for best medicare instead of private hospitals. We will try to continue to provide best facilities,” he said.

Later, the Minister felicitated the outgoing superintendent of KGH Dr M Madhusudhana Babu and praised his services during his tenure and greeted the new incumbent Dr Arjun. MP K Hari Babu, MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, GVMC ADC Mohan Rao and KGH doctors were present on the occasion.
