Vijayawada: The city police arrested 26 inter-State thieves and recovered property worth Rs 8 lakh here on Tuesday. These thieves belonged to six gangs of three States.

They were identified as Dulath Banshilal, Naveen Prakash, Kishore Sivaram, Niranjan Kushiram, Vinod Sanjay of Madhya Pradesh, Ranjith Ankush Badugujar, Mangal Ranjith, Rathan Umaji, Kailash Kishan Singh, Satish Jaya Singh, Arun Govardhan, Kunal Mahendra Pawar, Nanaram Bhosle, Ganesh Damodhar, Vijay Vikas Solanki, Vijay Jaya Singh, Sk Basheer, Naveen Ankush, Ambudas, Raj Naravindh, Gangadhar Naik, Asish Kandekar, Hemnath of Maharashtra, K Jagannadham, K Chandulu and Surya Prakash of Andhra Pradesh.

Police Commissioner D Gautam Sawang produced the thieves before the media at Police Commissionerate here. Disclosing the details, Sawang said that 23 gangs from 12 States came to the city to snatch valuables, cash and ornaments during the recentlyconcluded Krishna Pushkaralu. The specially arranged police teams have identified 200 suspects and took them into custody, he added.

The Commissioner informed that during Pushkaralu, a total of 87 cases were registered and Rs 30.86 lakh worth booty was recovered. Earlier, police arrested total 115 persons and recovered booty worth Rs 26.85 lakh in different cases. Police detected 82 cases out of 87 and the remaining cases are under investigation, the Commissioner said.

The thieves camped here during Pushkaralu at Padmavathi and Krishnaveni ghats and PNBS Bus Station. They were experts in attention diversion and chain-snatching, he added.

In another case, police arrested one inter-district thief and recovered 84 gm of gold and 975 gm of silver. Surapaneni Raju alias Vamsi, a resident of Penamaluru was arrested at KR Market in the city.Joint Police Commissioner P Harikumar, DCP G Pala Raju and Additional DCP (Crime) Rama Koteswara Rao were present.
