Amaravati: Former Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kanna Lakshminarayana on Wednesday said that the Central government will give better package to Andhra Pradesh than the Special Category Status (SCS).

Addressing a press conference in Guntur city, the Former Minister said at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre has already began an exercise to announce a package to the new AP State, which will be better than the SCS.

He said that the Centre will release funds for the construction of multi-purpose Polavaram Project and keep up other promises made at the time of bifurcation of the State.

He reminded that the Centre has already released funds to AP under various heads to take up development works and added that the Centre will release some more funds to extend helping hand to AP, if the State government submitted utilisation certificates. He assured that the Centre will extend co-operation for the development of the State.

When the reporters asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu’s assurance on SCS, the BJP leader replied that because of the assurance given at the time of elections, the BJP decided to give a special package to AP.

He added that at the time of bifurcation, except BJP, leaders of no other political parties sought any favour to Andhra Pradesh. He said that the Centre and State governments will work together for the development of Andhra Pradesh.
