The Minister visited the Tammileru Aqueduct at Janampeta village in Pedavegi mandal in West Godavari district and watched the Godavari water flowing into Polavaram Right Main Canal (PRMC) and aqueduct works. The Godavari water is flowing in 10-foot height at the aqueduct.
Eluru: Water Resources Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said that the survey works of Godavari-Krishna-Penna rivers linkage programme was completed and Chief Minister will decide the starting of the river linkage works by next month.
The Minister visited the Tammileru Aqueduct at Janampeta village in Pedavegi mandal in West Godavari district and watched the Godavari water flowing into Polavaram Right Main Canal (PRMC) and aqueduct works. The Godavari water is flowing in 10-foot height at the aqueduct.
Talking to media on this occasion, Devineni said that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has concentrated on the water resources department and decided to complete the pending irrigation projects to supply water additionally to 40 lakh acres in the State.
The Minister said that the government will link up the Nagavali and Vamsadhara rivers in north Andhra Pradesh to supply irrigation water to Vizianagaram, Srikakulam districts. During the current year, the government will spend Rs 1,000 crore on the first and second phase works of Vamsadhara project, he added.
Minister said that the CM will visit Polavaram project site on September 13 to inspect the ongoing works and said the Chief Minister has been visiting the site every month and conducting weekly review with officials.
Devineni slammed Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy and said that he has no moral right to talk about Polavaram irrigation project and alleged that Jagan is obstructing the construction of various irrigation projects in the State and claimed that Opposition has no clue about the projects.
The Minister said that TDP government is fighting for the special category status and special package with the Centre. “We are always ready to sacrifice to protect the interests of the State. It is regrettable that the YSRCP members tore off the copies of Constitution in the Assembly and threw them at the Speaker”, he said.
He said that the government was committed to supply water to 90 lakh acres to save the crop in the current season and pointed out that the government has implemented the water management to save every crop in the State. He said about 4,000 engineers and officials are supervising the supply of water to the crops and praised Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu who saved the farmers in four Rayalaseema districts through rain guns. He said with the efforts of Chief Minister the groundnut crop in 4.70 lakh acres was saved.
The Minister said that by 2018 the government will complete Polavaram project at any cost and said at present one lakh cubic metres of work is going on and it will increase to 2.25 lakh cubic metres, he added. He said the concrete works of Polavaram project will start from Vijayadasami festival. The Centre has agreed to sanction hundred per cent funds to the project, he stated.
