Vijayawada: Rail Mazdoor Union (RMU) Vijayawada divisional secretary YSRKVD Prasad demanded that both Union and State governments should work to establish new railway zone of Andhra Pradesh in Vijayawada city. In a press release here on Wednesday, Prasad appealed to the Centre to announce new railway zone to AP locating Vijayawada as headquarters as the city was a central station to the south zone of Indian railways.

He also said that employees would face difficulty to go to Visakhapatnam if it was declared as headquarters of railway zone. It will take three to four days to the employees of Gunthakal division and some other stations of Rayalaseema to shuttle between Visakhapatnam and their respective places which would also a financial burden to the department. Visakhapatnam was not a right place owing to operational and administration reasons, he said.

He further said that railway employees were disappointed with the seventh pay revision and asked the Central government to increase the wages and announce allowance immediately. He wanted to deposit arrears of provident fund into bank accounts without including with bonus of 2014-15 and 2015-16 financial years.
