Speaking to media persons at the CM Camp Office, here on Friday, the Minister said that Chief Minister had decided to conduct virtual inspection of project works on every Monday and inspect the project site personally on third Monday of every month to complete the project as per schedule.
Vijayawada: Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been giving top priority to Polavaram project and the works are going as per the guidelines of Central Water Commission (CWC).
Speaking to media persons at the CM Camp Office, here on Friday, the Minister said that Chief Minister had decided to conduct virtual inspection of project works on every Monday and inspect the project site personally on third Monday of every month to complete the project as per schedule.
Devineni said that the government has taken up the project works as per CWC guidelines and there was no deviation of works. He said the advices of engineering experts and professors of IITs will be taken into consideration for the design and construction of the project.
Rao said that the State government was successful in drawing 19.1 tmc ft of Godavari water from Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme and 16.5 tmc ft of water was used for Krishna delta and 2.5 tmc ft of water diverted through Polavaram right main canal was used to protect the crops in upland areas of West Godavari district.
Allaying the fears on coffer dam at the project site, the Minister said that the coffer dam was aimed to divert the flow of river and complete the works of earth-cum-rock fill dam and spill way.
Explaining the technical details of the project, engineer in chief, K Venkateswara Rao said that the coffer dam was aimed to construct up to a height of 41 metres to divert the river water to Polavaram canals through gravity which were at a bed level of 36 metres.
He said the formation of coffer dam would provide ample time to take up the construction of spill way and earth-cum-rock fill dam.The engineer-in-chief said by constructing the coffer dam 28 lakh cusecs of water could be diverted.
