Amaravati: The National Highways Authority of India is likely to call fresh tenders to lay Vijayawada West Bypass from Mangalagiri to
Pedavutapalli near Gannavaram in Krishna district to reduce traffic on Kanakadurga Varadhi.

The NHAI recently cancelled the tender allotted to the Gammon India Infrastructure Company for its failure to start the Vijayawada West
Bypass Road works under the Vijayawada -Gundugolanu Project, for which the NHAI has already acquired necessary lands. If fresh tender
is called, another company will come forward to take up the work. After, Amaravati became capital, road traffic between Vijayawada and
Guntur cities increased.

There is need to reduce traffic on Kanakadurga Varadhi and need to develop alternative roads. If, Vijayawada West Bypass Road is laid, a
four- lane bypass road will be laid from Mangalagiri town, which will pass through backside of NRI General Hospital. A four-lane bridge
will be constructed across the Krishna river from Surayyapalem to Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada. The road will connect the NHAI at
Pedavutapalli. If this road is laid, vehicles going to Vizag from Chennai will pass through this road without entering Vijayawada city.
Similarly, vehicles going to Vizag from Hyderabad will pass through this road. As a result, traffic in Vijayawda will reduce.

A senior official, on the condition of anonymity, informed that the Central government is in favour of laying the road. It will take a
decision.

The NHAI in principal has agreed to extend the flyover bridge proposed at Benz Circle to Dr Ramesh Hospital Centre. It has to give
administrative order, then it will be incorporated in the tender to execute works.
