Vijayawada: As part of Vanam-Manam programme launched by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at Sunkollu village in Krishna district in June to increase the green cover in Andhra Pradesh, geo tagging was provided to 5.5 lakh plants in the State on Saturday.

As part of the Vanam-Manam programme organised at 315 places in the State, 1,09,837 saplings were planted on Saturday. Currently, Andhra Pradesh has 23 per cent green cover and another 3 per cent non-forest, besides 13 lakh hectares of degraded forest.

Naidu gave a call to the people to plant saplings in a big way to protect the environment and urged officials to take up plantation in four lakh acres per annum in next ten years. It may be noted here that Chief Minister directed the officials to observe Vanam-manam programme on fourth Saturday of every month to take up plantation programme on a massive scale. (INN)
