Chittoor: As the government is not in a position to pay the Non- Practising Allowance (NPA) to the doctors of government hospitals, private practice is permitted subject to the condition that they should not run nursing homes, according to Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivas. As the government doctors are very particular for claiming the non-practising allowance, they have been permitted for private practice, he added. It may be recalled that former AP Health Secretary Poonam Malakondaiah had made a futile effort to ban private practice of the government doctors, but in vain.

With commitment of providing corporate medical service to the people free of cost, we are keen for PPP mode (Public Private Partnership). As per the instructions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the Chittoor Government Hospital was clinically attached to Apollo Group of Hospitals. As a result, Apollo has established here a medical college and upgraded the Chittoor Government Hospital with 620 beds,” he added.

The Minister further stated that no user charges would be collected in Chittoor Government Hospital as per the MoU with Apollo management.
The government is contemplating to upgrade the hospitals in district headquarters in eight districts under PPP mode. There would be no impact on the services of government doctors and Apollo has no business in the administrative aspects of Chittoor Government Hospital.

He admitted that the government has decided to wind up the Urban Health Centres in the State and avail the services of the employees of Urban Health Centres in a better way. He felt that there is a need to streamline the functioning of Primary Heath Centres ( PHCs) in the State with private partnership. Chittoor MP Dr N Siva Prasad, Chittoor MLA D A Satya Prabha, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Girvani Chandra Prakash, TDP president G Srinivasulu, DCH Dr Saralamma, superintendent Dr Pandurangaiah, RMO Dr Sandhya and others were present.
