Visakhapatnam: General Secretary of Andhra Pradesh State Committee of Girijana Sangham P Appalanarsa opposed the government’s unilateral decision of conducting Araku Utsav on November 18, 19 and 20 without taking the opinion of local tribal public representatives, employees’ associations and teachers’ associations.

He disclosed here on Sunday that every time, the government is doing the same thing and it was encouraging outside artistes for conducting cultural events ignoring the local talent which is objectionable. Though the Girijana Sangham has been demanding the government provide ID cards, equipment and monthly pensions to the artistes, nothing was materialised so far.

He demanded the government convene a meeting with all the leaders of the Girijana Sanghams and associations immediately to discuss about the event. He also condemned the police firing at poor Girijans agitating peacefully against amendments to the existing Land Patta Acts in Jharkhand.
