Amaravati: The Guntur Municipal Corporation has taken steps to expedite the comprehensive drinking water scheme, which is aimed at providing 24x7 drinking water, to the people in the city. GMC commissioner S Nagalakshmi instructed the engineers to complete the works by November end. According to contract, the contractor firm has to complete the work by November 27. The GMC has already conducted tap melas to provide tap connections to the houses to increase the revenue.

GMC Commissioner S Nagalakshmi conducted a meeting with the SCC firm and the officials at the GMC office on Saturday and directed the officials to complete the works within the stipulated time to provide 24x7 drinking water scheme.

She directed the officials to complete the intake well at Undavalli, filter works at Takkellapdu, pipeline works in Guntur as early as possible to provide 21,000 tap connections in the city. She further instructed the officials to engage additional staff and complete the works on a war-footing.

She instructed the officials to solve problems to lay pipeline laying work at railway level crossing and on NH-5 also.

She directed the officials to take precautionary measures while digging the road to lay pipeline to avoid accidents.

She stressed the need to solve drinking water problem a Autonagar in the city. She directed the third party quality control officials to take steps to maintain quality in works. It may be noted that the GMC has taken up the works with the World Bank financial assistance.

GMC superintending engineer Koteswara Rao instructed the SCC contract firm to complete the comprehensive drinking water scheme within the stipulated time and instructed the officials to review progress of the work regularly.
