Amaravati: The landowners in Venkatapalem village in Amaravati capital region staged a protest at Panchayat office here on Tuesday objecting to destruction of crops in the lands given by them for road construction in 2012 and implementation of Land Pooling System (LPS).

Amaravati: The landowners in Venkatapalem village in Amaravati capital region staged a protest at Panchayat office here on Tuesday objecting to destruction of crops in the lands given by them for road construction in 2012 and implementation of Land Pooling System (LPS).

The CRDA officials removed crops in the lands for laying of seed axis road recently. The land owners said that nearly 80 acres in the village limits was given for road construction in 2012.

The farmers said they gave the land after government had released GO for its acquisition, said M Nageswara Rao, of Venkatapalem who is also one of the land owners. He further said that even when the land was given for road construction purpose, the government had neither paid the compensation nor laid the road so far.

In this backdrop, the landowners have been cultivating the lands since then. Recently, the landowners filed a suit in the court seeking implementation of Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) in their case to like in other parts of capital region.

The previous agreement with the government lapsed after completion of five years as per rules, Nageswara Rao said.He added that the CRDA officials should take their lands through LPS scheme only.
