Vijayawada: YSRCP president and the leader of Opposition in the Assembly Y S Jaganmohan Reddy alleged that the government is responsible for the withering of black gram crop in Bapulapadu mandal and other parts of Krishna district during this rabi season as it failed to supply irrigation water to the black gram crops.
He toured Bommaluru and other villages of Bapulapadu mandal of Krishna district on Monday to interact with the black gram farmers, whose crops dried up due to short supply of water from Eluru canal and with virus infecting the crops.
Talking to the farmers, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said the Telugu Desam Government had failed to store water at 42 TMC feet capacity in Pulichintala project due to non-payment of RR package to Telangana government as per the agreement. The YSRCP leader said the State Government is storing only 22 tmc feet of water in Pulichintala project against the full capacity of 42 tmc feet of water.
He said the TDP government is not paying Rs 120 crore to Telangana government for the last two years in spite of repeated requests from the Telangana government. The YSRCP leader said still there is a possibility of storing 42 tmc feet of water in Pulichintala if the State government takes measures in this regard.
He said the farmers under the Ayacut area of Eluru canal in Bapulapadu mandal never faced such water shortage problem during the last 50 years. He has lashed out at the government saying that the Chief Minister and other leaders are giving false details on the supply water from Pattiseema project.
He questioned why the black gram crops were not supplied adequate water this Rabi season when Pulichintala project water was diverted to Krishna River via Pattiseema lift irrigation project.
Jaganmohan Reddy has alleged 55 tmc ft of water was released in to the sea last rainy season due to lack of water storage facilities in Pulichintala project.
