Staff of the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park rescued the sloth bear from Vajrapukotturu village in Srikakulam district on Tuesday.The animal was trapped by the farmers who set up for cage for wild pigs. On the instructions from Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Visakhapatnam Circle, the staff rushed to the village and rescued the animal.

Visakhapatnam: Staff of the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park rescued the sloth bear from Vajrapukotturu village in Srikakulam district on Tuesday.The animal was trapped by the farmers who set up for cage for wild pigs. On the instructions from Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Visakhapatnam Circle, the staff rushed to the village and rescued the animal.

It took two hours to the rescue team of 15 veterinary and forest personnel to free the animal from clutches where it got stuck and slightly injured. The team tranquilised the the animal as part of rescue operation since the bear was fully under stress and frightened.

The bear with suspected internal injuries was transported to Vizag Zoo and housed in night kraal for further physical and behavioural observation. The zoo personnel coping to stabilise the animal and kept in observation and it will be decided as per the instructions of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildyys Life) and Chief Wildlife Warden, Andhra Pradesh whether to free the animal in wild or to retain the animal in the zoo.
