Principal Secretary to the government for Municipal Administration and Urban Development and Special Officer for Prakasam district R Karikal Valaven ordered the district officials to make special arrangements to help the people fight drought in the district effectively and provide drinking water to all habitations.

The principal secretary conducted a meeting with the district officials on Wednesday here to review the drought and seasonal conditions in the district. He advised the officials to make special arrangements to provide drinking water to the villages which are facing severe shortage and provide drinking water kiosks and night shelters for the public to get relief from the heat wave.
TB Control Officer T Ramesh said that the medical and health department have already stocked 2.75 lakh ORS packets with the PHCs, sub-centres, ASHA and Anganwadi workers and coordinators of employment guarantee works for distribution to the needy.
DWMA project director Polappa explained that the works under the employment guarantee scheme are only being carried out from 6 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 6 pm giving adequate rest time and relief from the scorching sun. The special officer asked horticulture officer Hari Prasad to form Farmers Clubs in the district to get high and better price for the fruits produced in their orchards.
Animal husbandry department joint director Dr Rajani Kumari explained that they have constructed 1,025 water tanks for the animals and about to construct 1,442 water tanks with the help of DWMA. She said that the fodder like silage and azolla grass is being supplied to the cattle and proposals are sent to the government to produce fodder locally in the villages. RWS SE Sanjeeva Reddy said they are supplying drinking water through tankers to 341 habitations in 25 mandals with 3,378 trips and water for animals in 130 habitations through 424 trips.
Collector V Vinay Chand explained Karikal Valaven that ORS packets were made available to public through PHCs, CHCs and at the places of employment guarantee scheme works. He said that wall posters have also pasted at 5500 locations in the district explaining the steps to get relief from sunstroke and heat wave.
The Collector said that a special campaign is being taken up by the officials concerned to educate the public about the heat wave and shelters, drinking water were provided for the public.Karikal Valaven ordered the officials to make arrangements to provide drinking water and nutritious food supplements to people in vulnerable locations. He asked the officials to educate the public about food habits that increase the immunity in the body. He asked them to provide more number of drinking water kiosks and coordinate with each other in fighting the drought effectively.
