Tirupati: Tirumala, the abode of Lord Venkateshwara, witnessed a heavy turnout of pilgrims due to consecutive summer holidays. For the last five days more than 5 lakh pilgrims had Srivari darshan.

On Wednesday alone, more than 90,000 pilgrims had a darshan of the Lord and 58,000 tonsured their heads. There were around 40000 pilgrims waiting in queue line which spilled outside the massive queue complex after it was full late on Wednesday. Regarding the last five days, Srivari hundi collections crossed Rs 12 crore.

To cope with the heavy influx of rush, the TTD pressed into service a big contingent of about 3000 Srivari Sevaks to provide food items, breakfast, water, buttermilk and refreshments to the waiting pilgrims in the stretched queue line at Narayana Giri Gardens and Vikuntam Queue Complex.

At one stage, the queue line outside the queue complex extended up to 3 km with the pilgrim flow in full swing till Wednesday evening. Tirumala JEO KS Srinivasa Raju speaking to media at Tirumala on Wednesday said:

“We have geared up the officials to provide sufficient facilities to the pilgrims. We are allotting rooms on the first-come-first-serve basis.” At the same time the TTD had downsized the VIP recommendations for a darshan due to the rush.
