Visakhapatnam: Tight security arrangements have been made at the venue for the Mahanadu being held from May 27 to 29, following intelligence alert on Maoist threat to the top leaders.A senior officer said a three-layer security will cover the conclave with a strong contingent of 3,200 policemen drawn from various armed battalions, Greyhounds, Octopus and Quick Reaction Team. They will be on round-the-clock duty in two shifts not only at the venue, but across the city.

The venue has been already been taken over by security forces and the three layer security arrangements have been put into operation. As per the three-layer security cover, the outer layer will man the 12 check-posts at entry points to the city, an intermediate layer between the check-posts and the venue and core team will be present at the venue and its surroundings. DCP (Law and Order, North Zone) Navin Gulati said that the security plan for the Mahanadu has been spread across the north Andhra comprising Vizag, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts to keep a tab on the suspected persons.

Sources said that the police have taking numerous measures for security of all the people, who attend the Mahanadu, as the intelligence has alerted that there could be a possible threat from the Maoists, who have been waiting for an opportunity to avenge Malkangiri encounter of last year.

Police sources said Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu are among a few others who are in the hit list of Maoists.
The police are worried that a small incident can disrupt the Mahanadu and tarnish the image of police force. There are 35 access controls teams of which 20 would be at the Mahanadu venue and six anti-sabotage teams will be part of the inner cordon. The police have installed over 60 CCTV cameras to monitor the entire venue and its surroundings.
