Tirupati: Pilgrims visiting Tirupati have to face a tough time on May 30 as the AP hotels association is observing bandh on that day protesting against the new GST rate of 18 per cent on hotel sector. However, they have exempted Tirumala from it. They have given the call for bandh in line with the decision taken by the South Indian Hotels Associations.
Speaking to the media in Tirupati on Sunday, the Association State vice president KV Choudary said that in Andhra Pradesh the tax rate on hotel sector was 5 percent till now. Under the GST regime which will come into force from July 1 it would increase to 18 percent which cannot be borne by the small and middle class hotels.
