The team members announced that the Central government sanctioned Rs 1,680 crore after validating the report of the Central team which visited the state in January 2017.

The three member Central team led by Amitabh Gowtham, K Ponnuswamy and Dr Ganesh Ram visited Suddakurava tanda, Pullalacheruvu village and Chapalamadugu villages in Pullalacheruvu mandal. In Suddakurava tanda, the team visited the sweet orange orchards and interacted with the farmers.

In Pullalacheruvu, they visited the silage grass farm and discussed with the farmers about the fodder availability in the area. In Chapalamadugu, the team visited the red gram, cotton, chilli farms and interacted with the farmers.Amitabh Gowtham said, “The first Central team visited in January to estimate the effect of drought in kharif in 268 mandals in the state and 46 mandals in Prakasam district.

Now, the second team is visiting the state to estimate drought in 33 mandals in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Prakasam and Chittoor districts. We observed that there is a need to change the crop pattern in the district and they should cultivate crops with lesser water demand. We will submit a report for best relief after thoroughly studying the situation. We suggest the administration take up permanent measures to fight the drought in the area.”

S Nagalakshmi, joint collector of Prakasam district, said, “The Central government released Rs 1,680 crore for Andhra Pradesh as a relief for the drought in kharif. The farmers in the Prakasam district get Rs 343 crore as relief and they will be receiving the same in their bank accounts from Friday. The relief for the remaining mandals will be received as soon as the Central team submits their report.”

The Central team will visit Addanki and Mundlamuru mandals on Friday before going to Vijayawada. The teams visiting other districts also meet them and conduct a meeting to prepare a preliminary report. They meet the Chief Minister and state-level officials to take their version in preparation of final report to submit to the Central government.
