5000-CR POWER DUES

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday served a notice on the Telangana government to clear the pending arrears of nearly Rs 5000 crore related to the power supply made by AP Genco to Telangana during the last three years after bifurcation of the state.

According to Genco officials, they have been asking the Telangana government to pay the arrears for the last few months and since they did not respond, it has finally set the deadline of June 30 to clear the dues.

However, the Telangana government officials linking the issue to many other issues related to sharing of property, etc, which are yet to be resolved and was delaying the payment of arrears. The AP Genco informed the Telangana power utilities that this issue should not be linked to other pending issues and that dues must be cleared at any cost by the end of June.

They said if the TS government does not clear the dues, it would have no option but to stop the supply of power. The TS government, they said, has been collecting money for the supply of coal to AP promptly. In this case they are not linking it to other unsettled issues, add the officials.

Consequently, the AP Genco has decided that they would stop the power supply if the arrears were not cleared by the date. It may be mentioned here that in the past also both the states locked horns on this issue and it was taken to the notice of the Governor.
