CPI to stage dharna to save Swarajya Maidan
CPI will stage a dharna on June 12 at the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) office demanding the government not to hand over Swaraj Maidan for the development of City Square to China-based company. CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar in a statement here on Sunday demanded that the VMC should hold council meeting in this regard.
Vijayawada: CPI will stage a dharna on June 12 at the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) office demanding the government not to hand over Swaraj Maidan for the development of City Square to China-based company. CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar in a statement here on Sunday demanded that the VMC should hold council meeting in this regard.
He alleged that the state government is violating the High Court directions and getting ready to hand over the site to Chinese company. City people, several civil society organisations and political parties were opposing handing over of Swaraj Maidan to Chinese company, but the state government issued notification for the development of City Square, he said.
He said that the CPI is opposing the decision and will stage a dharna at VMC office on Monday and appealed to the people to participate in the dharna and extend support to save Swarajya Maidan.
