Hyderabad: Former minister and TDP leader from Nandyal of Kurnool district, Silpa Mohan Reddy, on Wednesday joined YSRCP along with scores of his supporters from the district.
YSRCP President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy welcomed Mohan Reddy and his followers by presenting them with party Kanduvas at a function held at Lotus Pond here.
Along with Mohan Reddy, others who joined YSRCP include Nandyal Municipal chairperson Sulochana, Markfed State Vice-President P P Nagi Reddy, a large number of municipal councillors, ZPTC and MPTC members and sarpanches.
Speaking on the occasion, Silpa Mohan Reddy said that he was compelled to join the YSRCP as Rayalaseema region, especially Kurnool district, was completely being neglected by the TDP regime in the State.
He alleged that numerous representations to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to look into various issues concerning the district fell only on deaf ears.
He said that after the death of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Rayalaseema region witnessed no development.
He further alleged that Chandrababu Naidu’s concentration and interest were only on Amaravati and Polavaram project. Numerous representations for resolving various issues confronting Nandyal Assembly constituency and Kurnool district had no impact on the Chief Minister, he alleged.
Referring to the allotment of TDP ticket for the ensuing by-elections in Nandyal Assembly constituency, necessitated due to the demise of Bhuma Nagi Reddy, he said the Chief Minister had gone back on his assurance to consider his request for the ticket for his group.
When Akhila Priya was inducted in the Cabinet, he had not raised any objection. But when the Nandyal seat fell vacant, his request for the seat should have been considered, he explained.
YSRCP leaders belonging to Kurnool district hailed the decision of Silpa Mohan Reddy and his followers to join the party. Welcoming them into the party fold, YSRCP MP B Renuka said she was confident that more and more leaders would join YSRCP and strengthen the party and help it come to power in the next elections.
YSRCP Kurnool district president A Amarnath Reddy expressed confidence that after the by-election results of Nandyal Assembly seat, there would be an exodus from the TDP to YSRCP. He challenged Chandrababu Naidu to consider the by-election results as a referendum.
Reacting to Silpa Mohan Reddy joining YSRCP, Tourism Minister Akhila Priya said that it was good riddance to bad rubbish as Nandyal Assembly constituency would tread on road to prosperity in the coming days.
