About 43.53 tmc ft of Krishna water would be diverted through Kollam Vagu to the Veligonda project More than 90 per cent of work on the tunnel being carved out of the Nallama hills to bring water to the project has been completed. The 18.82 km long tunnel is crucial for taking Krishna water to the project, which is situated at Kotturu near Dornala in Prakasam district.
The then chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy laid the foundation stone for the project 12 years ago.

Prakasam district collector Vinay Chand visited the site for head regulator on Friday to facilitate Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to lay foundation stone for it after obtaining necessary permissions. Divisional forest officer Selvam also accompanied the collector to the project site since the area is part of the Tiger Sanctuary.

After the completion of the Rs 100 crore head regulator, water would be released through the twin tunnels to reach Veligonda project. More than 4.17 lakh acres would be irrigated once the project is completed. The necessary heavy equipment for the construction of head regulator would be transported on huge punters to the project site on Rriver Krishna.
