Visakhapatnam: Director (projects) RINL PC Mohapatra said RINL has increased its production capacity and has modernised the existing units with high levels of automation and information technology applications to leverage for technological advantage.

He was the chief guest at a two-day operating committee meeting on ‘Automation and Information technology’ with the theme ‘Leveraging automation and IT for process excellence and production of value added quality steel’ hosted by RINL at Ukkunagaram on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that automation and IT play a vital role in the operations and magnify its efficiency in an integrated steel plant and RINL has been taking several initiatives in that direction to enhance the productivity and producing high quality steel products in the competitive market.

Mohapatra said there is a need to increase the steel consumption to meet the target of 300 million tonnes by 2030 as per the national steel policy of the government. Automation and IT would play a major role to achieve the target, he added. Later, he launched a new website of the operating committee on automation and IT to mark the occasion. P Raychaudhury, Director (Commercial), and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
