Chittoor: Former Minister and Congress leader Sake Sailajanath said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has failed miserably to secure Special Category Status (SCS) to the truncated AP despite being an ally in the BJP-led NDA government.
He alleged that the TDP and BJP had deceived the people of the state by not fulfilling the promise of SCS. He stated that the Congress will grant SCS to AP if the party comes to power both in the state and centre in next general elections.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, former Minister stated that the Congress would exert pressure on the state and central governments till they accord SCS to AP. The Congress leader said that the AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi had already promised that the Congress would never go back on the demand of SCS to AP.

“The people are highly fed up with the rule of NDA and TDP governments. Anti-establishment vote of the two parties would be an added advantage to the Congress,” he stated. The Congress leader alleged that there was no development in the state during the three-year TDP rule. He lashed out at the Chief Minister for trying to defend his failures with false promises. He said the TDP government failed to keep its promise of remitting unemployment incentive to the educated youth.

DCC president Venugopala Reddy came down heavily on district administration for taking instructions from the TDP appointed Janmabhoomi committees for implementation of social welfare schemes. The farmers in the district are highly fed up with the indifferent attitude of the TDP government. The government had failed to remit the input subsidy to the farmers in the district, he said. District Congress leaders Paradesi and Subramanayam were present.
