Tension prevailed in Garagaparru village of Palakoderu mandal in West Godavari district on Saturday with Dalits and upper caste women staging agitations.

Former MP Harsha Kumar, AP Dalit Mahasabha president Katti Padma Rao, and other leaders who reached the village, held discussions with the Dalits who complained about the social boycott.

According to reports, nearly 800 families of Dalit community have been facing a social boycott by upper-caste people in the village.

Harsha Kumar, who spent the night at Christianpeta along with Dalit leaders was arrested by the police in advance in order to avoid any sorts of violence. They were shifted to Rajanagaram Police Station in East Godavari district.

Questioning the police on his arrest without prior intimation, Harsha Kumar warned the government that the situation would worsen if the culprits are not arrested by Sunday evening.

Speaking further, he questioned as to why the police had not filed a case when dalits filed complaint 50 days back while condemning the arrests.
