According to sources, there are only 28 PETs for 20,000 students studying in 47 municipal and municipal corporation high schools in the district. There are no PETs at all in Peddapuram and Tuni municipal high schools.

Many schools in EG district have no PE teachers or facilities

Rajamahendravaram: Many in municipalities and municipal corporations are skipping sports classes due to lack of required Physical Education Teachers (PET). According to sources, there are only 28 PETs for 20,000 students studying in 47 municipal and municipal corporation high schools in the district. There are no PETs at all in Peddapuram and Tuni municipal high schools.

There are 227 primary schools, 11 upper primary schools and 47 high schools under two municipal corporations and seven municipalities in the district. In 2016-2017, as many as 39,000 students joined in all 285 schools, along with 20,000 students in 47 municipal high schools.

Only 10 PETs are working in 14 high schools of Kakinada Municipal Corporation in which 6,000 students are studying and 10 PETs are working for 13 high schools in Municipal Corporation of Rajamahendravaram.In Ramachandrapuram municipality, there is one PET working for five high schools, and one PET for two schools each in Pithapuram and Mandapeta municipalities.

In Samalota municipality, two PETs are working for four municipal high schools and two PETs are working in Amalapuram for two high schools, according to sources.A PET working in a municipal high school said there were no adequate facilities for sports to PETs in the schools and the students, who are showing interest in sports, are a distressed lot.
