District Collector B Lakshmi Kantham addressing a media conference at the sub-collector’s conference hall here on Wednesday said that arrangements have been made for the launch of voters registration drive from July 1. He said as a part of the month long campaign, booth-level officers will conduct door-to-door campaign in all 16 Assembly segments in the district and collect the applications from young voters.

He said Form 6 will be issued to the young voters for the registrations. Giving details of voters in Krishna district, the Collector said 29.20 lakh voters are in the district and issuing new voters cards (Poly Vinyl) will begin in August after verification process was completed.

He said the healthy ratio of population and voters is 1000:690 as per the Election Commission estimates. He said Form-7 will be used to delete the voter’s names from the list if the voters have migrated to other places or died. He said the voters now get an opportunity to change their names from constituency or one polling booth to other polling during the one month voters’ enrollment campaign.

Referring to new voters in the age group of 18-19 years, the Collector said there should be two per cent young new voters as per the Election Commission estimates. He said the Election Commission has software to check duplication of voters’ names. He said the software identifies the names of the same persons who register at two places.

When asked about the deletion of duplication, the Collector said all efforts will be made for enrolling the name at only place and avoiding duplication. He said the enrollment and distribution of cards will be completed by August 31 and informed that even after August 31 there is a scope for the registration as it is a continuous process as per the section 22/23 of the Election Commission. Earlier, the District Collector held detailed discussions with the officials for the beginning of the electoral enrollment process at the sub-collector’s conference hall.
