Visakhapatnam: An awareness programme on ragging was held at GITAM University here on Thursday in which a large number of students participated.

Assistant commissioner of police P Ramachandra Rao was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, the ACP said the youth can make a difference in society by showing their uniqueness and upholding moral values.

While stressing on values, he observed that young people ought to know their importance and worth in society and begin to value themselves as purveyors of the fortune and progress of country.

He warned that involving in ragging activities within the campus and outside the campus sometimes would lead to life imprisonment and ruin their careers.

He briefed about various ragging Acts and IPC sections to create awareness among students. He made suggestions about traffic regulations, safety driving.

Concluding his address, he appreciated that during the past 10 years there has been not a single ragging case registered at GITAM. He hoped that the same spirit will continue in coming years.

GITAM Institute of Technology principal Prof K Lakhshmi Prasad disclosed that GITAM University is engaging the senior students in various academic activities and using them as guides for juniors. The university is taking all precautions to make the campus student friendly and knowledge hub.
