Jagan forms panel to bring TWO groups together
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and Leader of Opposition in Assembly YS Jaganmohan Reddy announced a committee on behalf of the party to create a congenial atmosphere between two groups in Garagaparru village rocked by allegations of social boycott of Dalits by upper caste people.

The committee consists of MLC Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, former MLA Pathapati Sarraju, SC-ST Commission former chairman Merugu Nagarjuna and YSRCP state Dalit wing leader Koyye Moshen Raju. In addition, some other members from both parties will also be included in the committee.
The YSRCP chief said the committee would discuss with both parties and try to create a friendly atmosphere between the two groups. The YSRCP leader, who arrived at Garagaparru directly from Gannavaram airport, first met 14 upper caste people and interacted with them for over 20 minutes on the issue of the social boycott.
The upper caste people told him that they did not socially boycott the Dalits in the village. “We want to live like brothers as earlier. The problems have arisen due to some people. Ours is a model village so far. If all leave the issue to the villagers, it will be settled. We have no objection to installing Dr Ambedkar statue in the village. The mistakes are on both sides,” the told Jagan.
Jagan told the villagers that all are not good and all are not bad. “Some people may be bad. The wrong deed was done by one or two persons and it should not be applied to all members of the castes. if any mistake or wrong was done, we will rectify it. There will be no problem with it. This may not down our self-respect,” he said.
The YSRCP later went to Christianpet and met the Dalits who were socially boycotted by other castes of the village. The Dalits told him about their plight of over two months. After listening to their woes, Jagan said, “I came here to know what has happened here. I will talk to both parties. All should come on one platform. In village, all people have to live with peace and harmony.”
He said this sensitive issue should have been solved on the day of incident itself. “The delay leads to communication gap and entry of outsiders further spoils the situation. The other community people told me that due to communication gap only the dispute arose.
Both parties should live in this village and see each other’s faces. All should have to live here whether the like it or not. Compensation should be given to the victims under SC ST Atrocities Act. The law will take its course. If any officials neglected duties in this episode, the government should suspend them after conducting an inquiry. Tahsildar and SI have already been suspected,” he said.
Stating that non-Dalits were of the view that such situations should not be repeated in future, Jagan said he would set up a committee on behalf of YSRCP to try to bring both parties on one platform and bring the earlier peaceful atmosphere and villagers should forget the past and move forward.
