Make Vanam-Manam grand success
Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy gave a call to people to plant at least a tree sapling in the rainy season. He participated in Vanam-Manamprogramme held at Balaji Nagar Park in Nagi Reddy Revenue Colony here on Saturday and planted saplings.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the state government has taken up tree plantation drive on a massive scale under Vanam-Manam programme. Krishnamurthy stated that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has fixed a target to plant at least 15 crore tree saplings across the state. “All the villages in the state will be covered and planting of saplings will go on till November-end,” the Minister said.

Krishnamurthy said that 25 lakh tree saplings are kept ready in 51 nurseries and instructed the official sconcerned to implement the programme in a foolproof manner.
He advised students to plant a tree sapling on their birthday and raise them with utmost care. Expressing displeasure over the poor maintenance of 2 lakh tree saplings planted in the last three years, he directed the civic body staff to take up saplings plantation in parks, municipal areas and inopen placesacross the districts.
District Collector S Satyanarayana said that the Vanam-Manam programme would continue up to KarthikaMasamVanabhojanam. He ordered the officials to take up planting of saplingsin the premises of government offices and schools.
He advised the women of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to take up plantation of saplings in 889 gram panchayats in the district. Besides gram panchayats, he also suggested them to plant saplings at farm bunds and summer storage tanks.
Expressing concern over the declining of forest area in the state, Satyanarayana said district has only 19 per cent of forest cover as against the National Forest Policy of maintaining 33 percent of geographical area.
District Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopinath Jetti, Chief Conservator of Forests Rathnakar Johar, Former Minister Yerasu Pratap Reddy, Kurnool MLASV Mohan Reddy, Panyam MLA Gouru Charitha Reddy, DFO (Social Forestry) Yeshoda Bai, DFO Venkateshwara Rao and Municipal Commissioner Harinath Reddy were present.
