According to details provided by the MLA and locals, K V Apparao (28), a native of Vithal Nagar, Bujji, a native of Karamchedu, Satyam, a native of Vadarevu in Chirala, are daily wage workers. They went for road laying work at Timirtipadu village in Karemchedu mandal on Wednesday.

As part of the work, Apparao tried to hammer an iron rod into the Earth to keep the road margin plates in place. But as the electricity department had already laid underground electricity cables there, the iron rod came into contact with the live wire and Apparao was electrocuted.

The contractor of the road Bodavula Ranganayakulu, threatened other workers of dire consequences if they reveal the truth, and sent Apparao’s body to Chirala Government Hospital saying he collapsed suddenly while working. Sensing foul play, the relatives of Apparao went to Timirtipadu and learnt how he died from the locals.

During that night, when they were trying to complain to the police, the contractor Ranganayakulu, Sarpanch Rattayya and other village elders offered Rs 8,000 as compensation to the kin of the dead worker.

Humiliated by the mean response of contractor, the relatives of Apparao and other workers reached the residence of MLA Amanchi Krishnamohan on Thursday morning and requested him to intervene.
