Eluru: Police arrested as many as 50 activists of Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) in West Godavari district, as a precautionary measure while they tried to attend the Kurukshetra Mahasabha to be held at Amaravathi.

In Eluru, the police arrested the MRPS activists who started to attend the Kurukshetra Mahasabha on Friday morning. The Madiga leaders Jujjivarapu Jaya Raju, Munnula John and others were earlier arrested at their houses on late Thursday night. The police later arrested other leaders on Friday morning at their houses and shifted all of them to various police stations.

The MRPS activists held dharna at Ambedkar Statue at Old bus stand centre in the City condemning the arrests and demanding their leaders releases immediately.

Police arrested seven MRPS workers in Dwaraka Tirumala. In Chintalapudi constituency also, the police took MRPS activists into their custody. The MRPS activists were taken into custody by police at Dharmajigudem in Lingapalem mandal.
