Amaravati: Giving impetus to the building of Amaravati, the AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) prepared a blue print to set up planning institute in the capital city. The proposed Amaravati Planning and Design Research Institute (APDRI) will make innovation an everyday habit and help create an active environment for citizens and start-ups to contribute to the city planning through open data systems.

The institute will have the backing of renowned planning institutes from across the world besides financial support from the World Bank. Significantly, Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) of Singapore is extending technical expertise to APDRI.
The Amaravati Planning and Design Research Institute is the brainchild of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, as he directed the CRDA officials to take lessons from the failed cities all over the world while readying plans to make Amaravati a sustainable and most favoured liveable city in the world.
Planning of a city has always been a tough task. The Chief Minister asked CRDA officials to think about setting up of AP’s own planning institute instead of depending on others as he wanted them to continuously improve the plans with innovative ideas. The valuable suggestion from the Chief Minister prompted the CRDA to swing into action to ready the blue print for APDRI.
Energy principal secretary Ajay Jain, along with commissioner, CRDA, Cherukuri Sreedhar, additional commissioner Ram Manohar Rao and directors held discussions with Singapore counterpart Francis Chong and prepared the guidelines for APDRI. Subsequently, CRDA officials and municipal administration minister P Narayana will present the details to the Chief Minister soon for seeking his suggestions to further fine tune the plan.
According to CRDA officials, APDRI will formulate urban design guidelines to ensure safe-pedestrian and cycle circulation; including the differently-abled, and put a mechanism in place to actively monitor the “happiness index” of Amaravati through socio-economic surveys and planning. APDRI would ready new model for planning and the adoption of electric and autonomous (driverless) vehicles in the capital city.
