Atmakuru: Rendering of Bhajans, visits to Shirdi Sai temples, car festivals marked the celebration of Guru Pournami on Sunday in Atmakuru Assembly constituency. Special aarti programmes at the Shirdi Sai temples were arranged on the occasion.

Devotees celebrated the festival to express their reverence to the Gurus, in the lineage of Guru-Sishya Parampara. Local legislator Budda Rajasekhara Reddy and municipal chairperson Noor Mohammed visited the Shirdi Sai temples here. The temple was decorated with flowers and Goddess Durga was decorated with vegetables to depict her as Sakambaridevi.

Students of the Padmavati and Narayana educational institutions functioned as volunteers helping the devotees. Processional deities of Shirdi Sainath were paraded on chariots.

Children performing Kolatam, Chekka Bhajana, folk dances, cultural programmes formed front of the chariot processions.
Samgameshwara temple priest Telakapalli Raghurama Sarma explained the significance of the celebrations dating back to sage Veda Vyasa.
