Athletic Federation of India focus on 2020 and 2024 Olympics: CK Valson
Athletic Federation of India (AFI) secretary CK Valson said that federation is focusing on producing world class players for the Olympics to be held in 2020 and 2024. Indian athletes are gradually improving their capacity and getting more and more medals, he said.

AFI secretary CK Valson spoke to reporters at ANU in Guntur district on Friday. “Who performed well will be selected for Indian team which will participate in Athletic World Championship to be held in London next month” he said.
He made it clear that all the Indian athletes should participate in senior nationals and this is mandatory for selecting the Indian team. He has made it clear that those players, who have not participated in the championship would not be consider for selections, he added.
He further said that AFI is conducting year-long coaching camps in different places as part of new policy. Coaches and supporting staff would be recruited from other countries for improvement and developing sporting skills, he added.
Referring the world championship to be held in London, he said Narendra Chopra would get medal in javelin and Sudha Singh would get medal in steeple chase and expecting medal in 4x400 meters relay, he said. “Our aim is not to get medals in world championship but getting medals in Olympics, he pointed out.
Indian players are winning more medals in Asian Championship compared to the past and recalled that the players won 29 medals, including 12 gold last year.He said Indian players earlier won 21 medals including nine gold medals, he felt.
Blue Synthetic track will improve timing: Indian coach Bahadur Singh Athletic Indian coach Bahadur Singh said that blue synthetic track would improve the performance of athletes. He confidently said that more and more records would be created at ANU synthetic track.
"It is a good opportunity for those who were not selected for Indian contingent and they can perform well and prove their talent and get selected for the Indian team. This tournament will useful for practice for already selected athletes", he said.
