Cops still groping in the dark
One week after the robbery at the workshop of a goldsmith at Governorpet, the police are still groping in the dark. It may be recalled that they made away with gold and cash all worth Rs 1 crore. The preparedness of cops is coming under criticism as they missed every chance to nab the gang that risked a crime in the capital and successfully exploited security system.

It may be recalled that they made away with gold and cash all worth Rs 1 crore. The preparedness of cops is coming under criticism as they missed every chance to nab the gang that risked a crime in the capital and successfully exploited security system.
If it is a blame game, the police are ready with raising accusing fingers at each other as the capital includes both Krishna and Guntur districts. An IPS officer told The Hans India that the gang observed the police frisking vehicles at check-post as soon as they entered Guntur district, they deserted the car to flee.
The police have no check-post near toll plaza on the highway that leads to Guntur, he added. Because the capital has been in the construction stage, it appears to be a wonder to find security and safety of the capital not up to people’s expectations. When a gang of about 10 robbers with firearms and other weapons committed a crime at a busy place in the temporary capital, the police should not have allowed them to leave the capital.
“The faith of people would have been intact on safety aspect if the police rounded them off in the capital itself. Unfortunately, they wasted valuable time even after they were alerted within minutes after the crime,” said N Ramesh, a bank employee. “There are four to five teams, which have been working to arrest the robbers. We did not waste time in alerting the police of other districts,” a police officer clarified.
“We cannot criticise the police with their failure in one particular case. If the police took it as a challenge, their image have been improved”, said R Kiran, a businessman.
“The existing police force is not sufficient to meet the challenges before us. Keeping the chaotic city’s traffic in order is a biggest challenge. Safety of VIPs and other duties require more policemen. When we look at police strength, it is insufficient to meet all these tasks,” explained a senior cop.
