Amaravati: The ruling and the opposition parties are likely to keep their political bitterness away for a while to support the candidature of BJP senior leader M. Venkaiah Naidu for the Vice-President post as in the case of Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was quick to welcome the BJP Parliamentary Party decision in favour of Venkaiah’s nomination. In a release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, Naidu said Venkaiah is a fit case for the top post and great honour for both the Telugu states.

YSRCP chief Jagan has assured BJP president Amit Shah of his support to Venkaiah Naidu. Recalling Jagan as having stated that contest is unwarranted in election of the constitutional head when the ruling combine has the requisite numbers in the Electoral College, he said same thing might be applied in the Vice-presidential election too.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders from the two states expressed their elation over selection of Venkaiah Naidu for the post through social media.

Meanwhile, the NDA, as expected, received overwhelming support from both the ruling and opposition camps during the Presidential election in Amaravati. Both CM Naidu and Leader of Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy conducted a mock poll and ensured that their respective flocks voted for the NDA candidate en bloc even as the rival UPA drew the blank.
